Sony HDR-SR1; a very good camcorder

Strengths: Great HD & excellent SD video plus 5.1ch audio, 30GB HDD storage, 3.5" (16:9) LCD screen, digital stills on Memory Stick Duo or HDD

Weakness: Limited capacity (70< min.) stock battery, currently limited editing support for AVCHD format

If you want a camera with HD and top notch SD capabilities then the Sony HDR-SR1 is for you. Featuring a plentiful 30GB HDD the SR1 can store 4 hours of HD video plus digital stills can be stored on the HDD or a Memory Stick Duo card. The camera is easy to use and feels “right” in your hand. The LCD screen is sharp in most light levels and can be rotated 270 degrees. Digital stills can be...

The Sony HDR-SR1 is the camcorder of the future

Strengths: Easy to use, no other on the market

Weakness: A bit pricey, would be nice if it came with an HDMI cable

We bought this camcorder after reading so many great reviews on it. I highly recommend this because there is nothing on the market that compares. If you are looking for an HD camcorder this is hands-down the best on the market this is your camcorder. From the VERY easy to use LCD touch screen display to the 30 gigabyte hard drive this camcorder has it all. The camcorder does come with software to...

Sony HDR-SR1 Rocks!

Strengths: Fast startup, super clear imaging

Weakness: A bit of a learning curve on the menus and settings

Other than learning the menu settings which are plentiful and you really need to know them anyway (that's why you buy this kind of camera), this machine rocks. It's fast to startup, and shoots really well. I'm also impressed with the video, and the stills are very good as well. The software Sony provides is more than adequate although very basic for editing. I use Vegas anyway, which allows me to...

Best handycam to be used

Strengths: SR1 CMOS Sensor Clarity and HDD

Weakness: Bit heavy, No editing software for MPEG2

When I bought this Item after much comparison of rates and reviews from pricegrabber.com. Thanks to the users and reviewers in the site. I loved the Sony SR1 handycam from the instant I bought it. It makes a real feeling of taking live videos. Thanks to the clearvid CMOS Sensor clarity( which uses diagonal pixel than ordinary square pixel). I read lot of reviews in different websites and each...

East or West Sony is the Best (at least for Video...

Strengths: Of course High Definition, HD (no media needed), lots of input and out puts, ability to down grade form HD to SD, 4 MP camera, 5.1 CH sound and microphone jack/input, large nice LCD

Weakness: bit heavy, lacks Digital/optical audio output, non removable/swapable hard drive (no chance of upgading in future to larger size), big one is limited capacity of supplied battery

I tried JVC Hard drive model and returned it in few days picture quality was no better then my 1998 Hitachi camcorder. I waited almost 4 months for this baby and boy I am glad I did. I got this camera for relay nice price of about $ 1000 + $ 54 for SONY 71QD battery + 179 4 year SONY accidental damage Warranty. I got this camera yesterday tried it without reading any manual and it was pretty easy...

Simply amazing.

Strengths: Large LCD, 30GB Hard Drive storage capacity, intuitive (and nice looking too) menu system, 5.1 sound

Weakness: Limited support for AVCHD (right now, at least)

I had recently purchased Sony's DCR-DVD505, but after a couple of weeks of capturing video of my newborn son, I realized the moments I was filming are once in a lifetime and I sure would love to capture them in HD. About that same time Sony introduced the HDR-SR1 which was perfect for my needs. I had viewed the HDR-HC3, but although I was really happy with the quality, I wasn't thrilled at the...

Sony HDR-SR1, Good buy!

Strengths: Slick design, compact, large LCD.

Weakness: Touch screen is nice but can very difficult for people with fat fingers. Forced to use Sony's proprietary memory stick duo rather then the popular SD memory.

Glad I waited for this hard drive version. Very easy to transfer recordings to PC. HD video looks poor using Windows Media player but I guess this was expected because media player 10 was not designed around HD video. Using Sony's AVCHD player, the HD video quality is much better. Comparing to other $1500 camcorders currently in the market today; this model gives you more bang for your buck.

2 hands and 2 feet Up!

Strengths: High Definition, Hard Disc Drive, Surround Sound, 3.5" screen, Touch Screen, CMOS, Auto and manual focus, Mic Input, Ease and quikness of transfer to computer for editing, Quick Start-up.

Weakness: Hard drive not upgradable! Battery life not enough.

I am a gadget freak and all my money usually goes to buying electronic gadgets and after I got and played with it when I go to bed, eat breakfast, eat lunch, eat dinner, go to bed and not sleep but play with it for about 2 days now I can proudly say that it's worth every penny I spent. I'm even playing with it right now while I'm typing this review. The video and sound quality is 100/100....I...

sony hdr-sr1

Strengths: Beautiful picture and crisp video in the right setting. Easy to use touch screen, nice size and convient power controls on the right( I am right handed, husband not)!

Weakness: Not so "easy burn" thus far apparently you have to have the specific sony 8 cm discs(30 min. not very long) .In some settings the picture is blurry and actually out of focus.

So far, the camera takes nice pictures, however the storage may become an issue if the disc burning does not work to my needs. I do anticipate the discs working and much more manual reading and calls to Sony. It is not very organized, nor it it detailed enough in the art of DVD making
